CONSTITUTION:In an electron gun 7, one of a pair of side beams 6B and 6R are deflected/emitted in the negative direction and the other is deflected/emitted in the positive direction without focusing three electron beams 6B, 6G and 6R by a beam emitting edge side rotational direction deflecting means DR. This is to carry out a rotational correction on a large aperture common magnetic field focusing type electron lens image formed by means of a focusing magnetic field generator FMG. The three electron beams are converged on a phosphor screen 3 through this lens. To a convergent operation of this lens, an in-line direction deflecting means DI formed by winding a coil round horizontal/vertical shafts of an annular magnetic substance core forms a four- pole magnetic field, and exerts a force so as to keep away the beams 6B and 6R from the beam 6G, and corrects excessive convergence, and converges the beams 6B, 6G and 6R properly on the screen 3.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a color picture tube which has a short depth like one for a general house even in use for an HDTV and small consumption power and can display a high-quality image by specifying the ratio between the diagonal maximum deflection angle by a deflection yoke, the interval of adjacent electron beams, and the inner diameter of a neck. CONSTITUTION:The diagonal maximum deflection angle by a deflection yoke 57 is set wide to 100-110 deg. like a present color picture tube for a general house to shorten the depth. The diameter of a neck 55 is set large to 36.5mm or above, the interval between three electron beams BR, BG, and BB of an electron gun 56 sealed in it is set small to 3.5-6.0mm, and these three electron beams BR, BG, and BB are concurrently focused by a large-diameter electron lens LEL, thus the spot diameter on a screen 52 is made small, and the high resolution required for an EDTV and an HDTV is obtained. The self-concentration magnetic field can be obtained due to in-line arrangement, and the interval between the three electron beams BR, BG, and BB is small regardless of the large neck diameter and the large deflection angle. A color picture tube which has a short depth like one for a general house in use for the HDTV and low consumption power and can display a high-quality image is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To improve a convergence characteristic, deflection-and defocus characteristics without deterioration of deflection sensitivity by increasing the ratio of the space between three electron beams to the neck diameter and the length of horizontal deflection coil. CONSTITUTION:A deflecting yoke 57 is provided with a saddle type horizontal deflection coil 71 and a saddle type vertical deflection coil 72, and both coils are fixed to a mold. In this constitution, dispersion of misconvergence can be decreased by increasing DN/Sg. In the case of a wide angle deflecting cathode ray tube whose screen diameter is of a 25 inches-40 inches class, a length of horizontal deflection coil lHall is actually limited to approximately 180mm in maximum in the light of a total length of the picture tube, and if it is more lengthened, it becomes a picture tube unsuitable for the general household, because its depth is deep. In the case of such a large type wide angle deflecting cathode tube, it is preferable that the length lHall of the horizontal deflecting coil is therefore more than 90mm, but less than 180mm, and that DN/Sg, a ratio of a neck outer diameter D corresponding to the above value to the space of beams at both sides of the center Sg, is more than 8.4, but less than 14.0.

Each of the electron beams on both sides experiences comatic aberration from the second electron lenses SL1 to SL2, however the comatic aberration is offset because the first electron lens LL then experiences reverse comatic aberration, resulting in good focus on a screen. It is thus possible to enhance picture performance.

The blue electron beam also receives an upward oriented force 36, but because the deflecting mag. flux density applied to the red electron beam is higher than the deflecting mag. flux density acting on the blue electron beam, the red electron beam 31 is deflected more than the blue electron beam. That is, the mag. flux distribution of the vertical deflecting mag. field is made asymmetrical about the Y-Z plane, and the mode of asymmetricity is varied in synchronization with the vertical and horizontal deflection signals. This enables correction of the cross convergence pattern.

A delay circuit 27 gives mutually controlled delay times to the distribution signal for three electron guns, to correct misconvergence at the horizontal ends and diagonal ends of the picture field, while the vertical aux. deflecting magnetic fields is generated to correct misconvergence at the vertical ends and diagonal ends of the picture field. Thereby distortion of the beam spot shape is eliminated approximately, and a high resolution can be obtained over the whole picture field.

CONSTITUTION:A main deflecting device 13 relating to three electron beams 9B, 9G, 9R, emitted from an electron gun 10, is mounted to the outside of a boundary part between a large contour part 12 of a funnel 2 and a neck 8, and a color purity convergence correcting magnet 14 is mounted to the outside of the neck 8. An auxiliary deflecting device 27 is mounted adjacent to the magnet 14 to the outside of the neck 8 to connect a pair of coils of this device to an auxiliary deflecting circuit 28 connected to a driving circuit 23. By a command signal fed from the circuit 23 based on a current quantity of the electron beam, a predetermined current is allowed to flow in the coil of the device 27 from a circuit 27, and when a 4-pole field is generated, the three electron beams 9B, 9G, 9R can be properly concentrated on a phosphor screen 3 by moving a pair of the side beams 9B, 9R in a direction of over concentration.

CONSTITUTION:A resistance body 27 is provided along an electron gun 20, and one end part of the resistance body 27 is connected to, for example, an electrode G3 to which a relatively high voltage is applied, excluding an anode electrode G6, through a stem pin 24 to resistively divide the relatively high voltage applied to the electrode G3, and the resulting voltage is applied to electrodes G4, G5 to which a relatively low voltage is applied. Thus, a determined voltage is applied to one stem pin 24, whereby the voltage is resistively divided by the resistance body 24, and the determined voltage can be applied to other electrodes G4, G5. Thus, a required voltage can be easily applied to each electrode of the electron gun.
