CONSTITUTION:At the position to form a plain part at a long size electrode base plate 1 of a three-dimensional net-form structure of a foamy metal plate, for example, a necessary number of metallic belts 2, two lines for example, are pressed to attach to the base plate 1 continuously in the longitudinal direction, and a pressure is applied from the lower and the upper sides by rolls 3 and 3'. The base plate 1 to which the metallic belts 2 are attached, after this pressurizing process, passes through an active substance filling device 4 and pressure application devices 5 and 5 ' to give an uneven form to the plain part, and an original body for cell electrode is formed through roller press devices 6 and 6' which press the whole body. Consequently, the electrode plate can be punched and formed at a high yield rate without generating a crack at the borders between the plain part and the neighboring parts.

    • PURPOSE:To efficiently and stably form a highly reliable paste type electrode for use in an alkaline storage battery by continuously welding a ribbon-shaped metal piece by means of ultrasonic seam. CONSTITUTION:The portion of a nickel sintered fiber base serving as a current collecting portion is initially compressed into a sheet metal by a roller to form a plain portion 2, the nickel sintered fiber base being a conductive porous base of three-dimensional structure. The nickel sintered fiber base is filled with a paste containing active material and then the paste on the plain portion 2 is removed and the base is dried and pressed to fabricate a filled base 1. A ribbon-shaped metal piece 3 formed of a nickel-plated steel plate serving as both a current collector and a reinforcing material is made to abut on the rotating chip 4 of an ultrasonic seam welding machine and is given ultrasonic vibration in such a manner as making the piece 3 perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the plain portion 2, and the base 1 is moved at A speed of 1m/1min and then welding is carried out. Thereby a highly reliable paste type electrode is efficiently and stably obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a pasted electrode with high performance and long lifetime by after charging a pasted electrode substrate having three-dimensional structure with past, passing the substrate through a pair of rollers so as to effectively and stably remove the past charged adjacent to the surface of the substrate and restrain the substrate from expansion when the electrode is charged/ discharged. CONSTITUTION:Past 4 is put into a hopper 1. An electrode substrate 5 made of sintered nickel fiber having three-dimensional structure is passed through the past 4 from the hole of the bottom of the hopper 1 at a constant speed. Rollers 2a and 2b for past-charging are revolved in a direction indicated by arrows while the electrode substrate 5 is transferred upwards to charge the electrode substrate 5 with the past 4. Further, the electrode substrate 5 is passed through rollers 3a and 3b for past-removing which are revolving in a direction indicated by arrows. Thus, the past charged adjacent to the surface of the substrate is effectively and stably removed and expansion of the substrate when the electrode is charged/discharged is restrained. Therefore, the pasted electrode with high performance and long lifetime is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a paste from being drawn during pressing process and also obtain a paste type electrode of high capacity by carrying out pressure molding of the paste in such a manner that when passed between rollers for the first time the paste is pressed to predetermined final thickness by a specific roller press. CONSTITUTION:Nickel hydroxide is used as active material and nickel powder and carboxymethyl cellulose serving as a thickener are added thereto in respective predetermined amounts and pure water is further added thereto and mixed to form a paste. The paste is packed in a nickel sintered fiber base and after drying the base is passed between two upper and lower rollers once by a two- stage roller press 100mm in diameter and having the upper and lower rollers and is pressed to predetermined final thickness 0.6mm to obtain a nickel electrode. Preferably, the diameter of each roller is 100 to 300mm. Thereby the paste is prevented from being drawn during pressing and also a paste type electrode of high capacity is obtained.
