    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester giving a film very suitable for electrical insulation which contains a cyclic trimer in a very small amount enough to keep low the amount of the cyclic trimer extracted from the film by a refrigerant in case that the film is brought into contact with the refrigerant when the film is employed for electrical insulation for an enclosed motor for a refrigerator thereby preventing troubles caused by deposition on various parts of the refrigerator of the trimer resulting in clogging, and is excellent in hydrolysis resistance, heat resistance and mechanical characteristics enough to further lengthen the life of the motor for a refrigerator. SOLUTION: The polyester composition comprises at least 90 mole% of an ethylene terephthalate unit and contains at least one polymerization catalyst metal compound selected among antimony compounds, germanium compounds and titanium compounds, where the amount of the polymerization catalyst metal compound in terms of the metal is at least 0.2 mole/ton and at most 1 mole/ton based on the polyester and the content of an ethylene terephthalate cyclic trimer is less than 0.4 wt.% based on the polyester.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a magnetic tape having a good high-temp. storage characteristic by providing the one side surface A of a polyester film with a ferromagnetic metallic thin-film layer, providing the one side surface B with a back-coating layer and incorporating wax and/or soap at a specific weight% range into a film forming the one side surface B thereof. SOLUTION: The one side surface A of the polyester film is provided with the ferromagnetic metallic thin-film and the one side surface B is provided with a back-coating layer. The polyester film is so composed as to contain the wax and/or soap in the range of 0.05 to 1.0wt.% in the film forming the one side surface B to be provided with the back-coating layer. If the wax or the soap is below 0.05wt.%, the oligomer of polyester is liable to be precipitated from the inside of the polyester film by the residual solvent in the back-coating layer and such ratio is undesirable. If the wax or the soap is included therein at a ratio higher than 1.0wt.%, the surface B of the polyester film becomes sticky and the strength of the adhesion of the back-coating layer degrades and such ratio is undesirable.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a polyester film excellent in flame retardance, heat resistance and hydrolytic resistance, having a high crystal melt endothermic peak temperature, having a specific relationship with the total of P, by melting and molding a composition prepared by mixing a polyester with a specific amount of an organophosphorus compound. SOLUTION: A polyester (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate) containing 0.05-3wt.%, calculated as the total of phosphorus, of an organophosphorus compound of the formula (X is phenylene, naphthalene, biphenyl or a 0-5C alkylene- substituted phenylene, naphthalene or biphenyl; Ar1 to Ar4 are each phenylene or a 12-5C alkylene-substituted phenylene) [e.g. 1,3-bis(di-2,6- xylenoxyphosphoryloxy)benzene] is melted and molded to give the objective film having >=240 deg.C crystal melt endothermic peak temperature Tm( deg.C) measured by a differential scanning calorimeter and materializing the equation Tm>=Tmb-6P [Tmb is a crystal melt endothermic peak temperature ( deg.C) when the organophosphorus compound is not contained; P is the total (%) of phosphorus].
