    • PURPOSE:To simplify and miniaturize the structure of the water-in fuel removal apparatus as well as to effect simultaneous performance of both detection and removal of water mixed into the fuel. CONSTITUTION:A vessel 3 of a contained-water removal device 1 is disposed in a midway position of a fuel piping 2 so that a fuel F may be allowed to stay temporarily. Within the vessel 3, the followings are disposed: an alkali- metal made contained-water removal member 12 capable of reacting with water in fuel F to produce hydroxide, and a filter 14 for separating the hydroxide from the fuel F so as to check the outflow of the hydroxide to a side downstream from the vessel 3. When the contained-water remover reacts with the water, generation of heat follows. A temperature sensor 15 for sensing the temperature of a surface of the contained water removal member 12 is mounted to the vessel 3. A controller 16 determines a temperature gradient on the basis of the temperature detected by the temperature sensor 15 and, when that temperature gradient is equal to or greater than a specified value, generates an output signal for lighting an alarm-warning lamp.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent blocking of a fuel filter due to generation of wax in diesel fuel at a low temperature and prevent deficient fuel supply at the time of starting at a low temperature without using a means such as an electric heater, so as to enhance startability of a diesel engine. CONSTITUTION:A fuel supply device is provided with a fuel passage 13 at the time of cold starting for directly supplying excessive fuel of a relatively high temperature from a fuel tank 1 to a fuel injection pump 2 through a filter 3; and a fuel passage 15 after starting for supplying the excessive fuel, which is mixed with low temperature fuel from the fuel tank 1, to the injection pump 2 through the fuel filter 3. The passages are switched over by the use of solenoid valves 8, 9 at the time of starting of the engine and warming of the engine after the starting while the filter 3 is bypassed so as to decrease passage resistance on the fuel passage at the time of cold starting in the case of starting at a low temperature. Furthermore, fuel of a relatively high temperature is supplied from the fuel passage after the starting at the time of warming up of the engine after the starting, thereby preventing wax from being generated.
