      SOLUTION: The expansion joint blocks a clearance 4 formed in the ground of an outer peripheral part 2 of a base-isolated building skeleton 1, with a base isolating cover 5. In the expansion joint, a fitting recess 12 is formed on the base-isolated building skeleton 1 side of the clearance 4, and a protrusion 6 fitted to the fitting recess 12 is formed on the base-isolated building skeleton 1 side of the base isolating cover 5. A side face on the base-isolated building skeleton 1 side of the base isolating cover 5 is formed in a tapered face 9 tapered upward so that the protrusion 6 is turnable within the fitting recess 12, and a side part on the outer peripheral part 2 side of the base isolating cover 5 is formed as a tapered part 8 tapered outward. A sliding inclination part 14 with which the tapered part 8 comes in sliding contact is formed at a floor part on the outer peripheral part 2 side.
