    • PURPOSE:To accurately measure a radioactive matter especially in a cooling water by a method wherein an isotope thereof is mixed into a liquid containing the substance by putting it to a sampling piping through which the liquid has been sampled and then, the concentration of the radioactive substance and the isotope thereof is determined in the liquid separately. CONSTITUTION:For example, a cooling water in a pressure vessel 31 of a nuclear reactor is sampled via a valve 47 from a sampling piping 40 through a piping to a desalting device 39 from a heat exchange 38 to measure Co therein. The isotope Co is fed and mixed thereinto on the upstream of the piping from a solution storage tank 41 through a flowmeter 44, a pump 42 and a valve 43, Co and Co are trapped through a trapper 45 and the total flow rate thereof is measured with a flowmeter 49. Co and Co trapped with a cation paper or the like in the trapper 45 are measured separately and the quantity of Co attached is detected in proportion to Co from the quantity of Co attached to the inner wall of the sampling piping, which makes possible accurate measurement of Co in the cooling water. The same prodecure is conducted for other radioactive matters.

    • PURPOSE: To obtain an uranium adsorbent having a large specific surface area and a large pore diameter by a method in which a titanium compound and a metal compound are mixed and then coprecipitated in such a way that hydrated oxides other than titanium are dissolved.
      CONSTITUTION: A titanium compound and a metal compound except for Ti are mixed with water, and the mixture is mixed with an alkali or urea ro coprecipitate them in the form of hydrated oxides. Then, the oxides are taken out and mixed with an acid or an alkali to dissolve hydrated oxides except for Ti. Thus, porous hydrated titanium oxide having a large specific surface area and a large pore diameter and also suitable as an adsorbent for uranium can be obtained.
