    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate the life of a cable connection part by calculating the time required until an insulating tape alone reaches a level of an oxygen consumption amt. required until the life of the tape is exhausted. SOLUTION: Oxygen in air supplied in a cable connection part 11 from the gaps between the twist wires of a conductor 5 is dissolved in a semiconductor shield layer 6, an insulator 7, a semiconductive tape 9 and an insulating reinforcing layer 10 to diffuse. At first, the change with the elapse of time of the oxygen consumption amt. of an insulating tape is calculated. Since the insulating tape is stretched in predetermined magnification and wound in the connection part, a jig is used in order to simulate this state to stretch the tape with a thickness of 0.5 mm by predetermined magnification, and the stretched tape is put in a transparent container to be held in two thermostatic tanks set to 160 and 180 deg.C. Next, the concn. of oxygen is measured at every predetermined time while the state of the tape in the transparent container is observed and, after a certain time is elapsed, the oxygen consumption amt. per a unit vol. of the tape is calculated by formula (initial oxygen concn. in container-oxygen concn. after elapse of time)×container inner vol÷vol. of insulating tape.
