    • PURPOSE:To reduce the number of component parts and cost and facilitate assembly, by mounting the component parts such as a cam shaft, arm members, energizing springs and roller shafts onto a support plate to unitize the entire assembly. CONSTITUTION:A support plate 35 is in a flat plate form elongate sideways in general configuration, and is provided with pairs of notches 36.37, 38.39 at lett and right end parts 35a, 35b thereof. The part between each pair of the notches is bent downward to form bearing pieces 40, 41, with mounting ends 42.43, 44.45 provided on both sides of each of the bearing pieces 40, 41. All of component parts such as a cam shaft 54 and pairs of arm members 64.65, 66.67 are mounted onto the support plate 35 to assemble a paper-feeding unit A, and the mounting ends 42.43, 44.45 of the plate 35 are fixed to a fixed member such as side frames of a main body of a printer and a main cover. Accordingly, construction is simplified, the number of component parts is reduced, a reduction in cost can be contrived, and assembly can be facilitated.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce a troublesome operation by a user when a printing ribbon is ordered by detecting a ribbon end no matter whether the trailing end of a printing ribbon is fixed to a pay-out core. CONSTITUTION:In the case of using a printing ribbon 11 not fixed to a pay out core 10 at a trailing end 11a, the trailing end 11a is separated from the pay-out core 10 when the printing ribbon 11 is used up. Thus, a tension member 13 rotates clockwise by the pressing force of a tension spring 17 and drops a shutter member 18 to a detection position under its own weight to actuate a detection sensor 26 to detect a ribbon end. On the other hand, in the case of using a printing ribbon 11 firmly fixed to the pay-out core 10 at a trailing end 11a, the trailing end 11a is not separated from the pay-out core 10 even if the printing ribbon 11 is used up. Then, the tension member 13 rotates counterclockwise against the pressing force of the tension spring 17. The detection sensor 26 is actuated by the tension member 13 to detect a ribbon end.

    • PURPOSE:To constitute the title method so that when a reusable multi-pass heat transfer ribbon is set up once, the device can be managed without resetting the same repeatedly. CONSTITUTION:A quantity of conveyance of a multi-pass heat transfer ribbon 27 which is used by being conveyed in a positive direction at the time of performance of a recording process by a thermal head 2 is returned in a reverse direction at a preestablished fixed rate whenever one unit recording is completed irrespective of usage of the ribbon through a quantity of a rotation of a rotating shaft of a motor 23 turning a ribbon feed shaft 21 measured by a number of pulses of an encoder 25 along with a conveyance ratio of a reverse direction of the ribbon to a used length of the ribbon 27, which is set up arbitrarily by a setting device of a transfer medium reverse conveying rate such as its measured results and a rotary switch. Since the recording is repeated by conveying the ribbon 27 again in the positive direction after that, the ribbon 27 is used up to a possible limit and made throwaway.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a paper from sagging, by locating a fulcrum for a bail lever on the perpendicular bisector of a straight line connecting between a position A on a platen at which a bail roller is pressed against the platen and an intersection D of a paper in a released position (the position of the paper when the pressing of the bail roller is released) with an involute of the platen passing through the position A. CONSTITUTION:A straight line L is obtained which connects between a position A on a platen 10 and an intersection D of a paper 22 in a released position (the position of the paper when the pressing of bail rollers 16 is released) with an involute of the platen 10 passing through the position A, and the perpendicular bisector l of the straight line L is drawn. A fulcrum P for a bail lever 14 is located on the bisector l. When the lever 14 is turned with the fulcrum P as a center, the bail roller 16 comes into contact with the paper 22 in the released state at a position B on the paper 22 which position is extremely close to the intersection D, and then it is pressed against the platen 10 at the position A. Therefore, the bail roller 16 is pressed against the platen 10 while clamping there between the paper part of the position B at which the roller 16 has come into contact with the paper 22. Accordingly, the paper substantially does not sag in this operation.
