摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply form a coating on a metallic electrode by using a chemical bath, in which a glass frit and diamond powder are in a suspended state in a liq., as an electrophoresis deposition cell and connecting a metallic electrode as a cathode. SOLUTION: A channel member 4 used for a PALC display panel is arranged in a bath tub, and a suitable voltage is fed to the space between the cathode 26 of the channel member 4 and the anode 50 of a DC voltage source 54. A mixture of a glass frit, diamond powder and graphite powder is deposited on the cathode 26 of the channel member 4. After that, the channel member 4 is taken out from the bath tub and is baked. As a result, the glass frit is melted to bind the diamond and graphite particles with each other and to form a coating of carbon contg. the inclusions of diamond on the cathode 26.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to obtain an electrode of simple constitution for shortening the attenuation time of meta-stable gas ions by forming a metallic strip, forming a surface layer of a carbon-contg. material on the metallic strip and forming the electrode consisting of a metallic core and the coating of the carbon-contg. material. SOLUTION: The cathode 26 of a PALC display panel is adhered to the surface of a channel member 4 within a channel 20 of the channel member 4 and has a metallic base part (which is the metallic strip and is also the core) 50 provided with a coating (which is also the surface layer of carbon contg. material) contg. carbon. The surface layer 52 of the carbon-contg. material is formed on the metallic strip 50, by which the electrode of the simple constitution consisting of the metallic core 50 and the coating 52 of the carbon-contg. material may be easily formed. The carbon molecules which are ionized alone are introduced into the gaseous medium within the channel 20 and the attenuation time of the meta-stable helium ions may be efficiency shortened.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with the removing of an oxidized layer for preventing the conductivity reduction of an anode due to oxidation to be generated in a baking treatment by providing an apex part layer of an oxidation resistant material on the anode. SOLUTION: An anode 24 and a cathode 26 are respectively provided with a deposition layer 46 and a bulk layer 48. These layers 46, 48 are conductive and characteristics (strucurtral states) of them are uniform over longitudinal directions of respective electrodes. Moreover, a heat resistant layer (coating of heat resistant material) 54 is provided on the cathode 26. Then, the anode 24 has a protective apex part layer 50. The apex part layer (upper surface) 50 being on the bulk layer 48 is conductive and is produced with material having a strong resistance with respect to oxidation. Further, the characteristic (structural state) of the protective apex part layer 50 is uniform over the longitudinal direction of the electrode. There are gold, silver, platinum, rhodium and iridium or the like as material suitable for such a protective apex part layer 50.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electrode structural body which makes a discharge current uniform over the entire part of its longitudinal direction by subjecting electrodes to resistance coating by using at least one semiconductive compd. SOLUTION: A resistance layer 112 is added onto the apex of at least either of the electrodes 30 and 62 on the basis of the conventional plasma address structural body. Namely, the formation of the improved plasma address structural body 110 is executed by using a mask and adhering a mixture composed of, for example, 75% ruthenium oxide and 25% glass frit by electrophoresis to 2 to 4 micron thickness, then subjecting the adhered mixture to baking for one hour at 400 deg.C to form the resistance layer 112 so as to cover at least either of the electrodes 30 and 62. In this embodiment, the resistance layer 112 is formed on the apexes of both of the electrodes 30 and 62. The resistance layer 112 makes the discharge current flowing in the plasma address structural body 110 uniform by limiting the current.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermediate structure body capable of easily forming an electrode inside a channel provided in a channel member by arranging the wire of a length at least equivalent to the length of the channel inside the channel. SOLUTION: A final channel 20 is constituted of a relatively wide main groove and two relatively narrow grooves for the electrode along both sides facing each other of the main groove. Thereafter, the remaining of a mask layer is removed and the channel member 4 is completed. Then, the metallic wire 64 of the length at least equivalent to the length of the channel is arranged in the respective grooves for the electrode. A cover sheet 6 is arranged so as to cover the peak part surface of the channel member and the channel member is sealed by frit beads (frit seal). The frit seal prevents the wire 64 inside the respective grooves for the electrode from moving. Thus, this intermediate structure body (channel assembly) of a plasma address liquid crystal(PALC) display panel is completed.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to improve the optical characteristics over the entire part of a display panel and to obtain the good optical characteristics in spite of use of a channel substrate which is not severe in the optical characteristics by providing the front surface side of the channel substrate with a polarizer. SOLUTION: This display panel has the linear polarizer 50 between a cover sheet 6 and an electro-optic material layer 10. The polarizer 50 is a sheet of stretched polyvinyl alcohol. The front surface of the polarizer 50 is treated and is thereby provided with an alignment surface. The material layer 10 which is a liquid crystal material layer is adhered onto the alignment layer and an upper substrate 14 provided with data driving electrodes is fixed to the front surface side of the material layer 10. The display panel is provided with the channel substrate 4 and the polarizer 50 downstream of the sheet 6 along the flow of light, by which the optical characteristics of the panel are improved. Namely, the light made incident on the substrate 4 from a light source is non-polarized and, therefore, a change arises in the polarized light at the time of passing the interface between media having different refractive indices. The scattering at the substrate 4 and the interface in ionizable gas does not degrade a contrast ratio.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to maintain the display quality of a plasma address liquid crystal panel over the lifetime of this panel by balancing the concentration of the dopant gas in a storage material and the partial pressure of the dopant gas in a hermetically closed space. SOLUTION: A plasma channel 20 is coupled to a manifold channel 30. This manifold channel 30 is coupled to a vessel (gas source) 34. The inside space of this vessel 34 and the inside space of the panel are hermetically sealed from outside the panel. The vessel 34 includes tablets 38 of the hydrogen storage material. If this hydrogen storage material exists in a closed chamber, the concentration of the hydrogen held in the storage material is balanced with the partial pressure of the hydrogen in the chamber. Then, the partial pressure of the hydrogen in the panel drops and the hydrogen is released from the storage material as the hydrogen is consumed by the use of the panel. The slightly dropped partial pressure is balanced with the slightly decreased concn.
