    • PURPOSE:To prevent the moisture content rate of granules during in-stock from increasing, when polyester granules having alkilene terephthalate as the main recurring unit are stored, by a method wherein directly after polymerized polyester is formed into granules, the skin at least of the granules is crystallized. CONSTITUTION:Polyethylene terephthalate obtained by melt-polymerizing dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol is discharged, cooled and then cut to obtain cylindrical pellets having a diameter 3mm. and a length 4mm. each. These pellets are divided into units of 300g. These units are brought into crystallizing treatment at 110-180 deg.C, in heated steam for 2-5sec. Then, each sample is put in a beaker of 500cc, the upper portion of the beaker is kept open, left for a prescribed time in a room with a relative humidity 65%, a temperature 23 deg.C and then the hygroscopic amount is measured. After being stored for seven more days, pellets are dried for 3hr on a fluidized bed in hot air of 150 deg.C, the moisture rate of the pellets is maeasured to obtain always good results of approx. 0.005%.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent mutual gluing of granules that appear at the drying time and the solid state polymerizing time of the granules by a method wherein a crystallized layer with a thickness 20omega or more is prepared only on the surface area of the granules composed of polyester having alkilene terephthalate as the main recurring unit and treated under a condition satisfying the specific relation formula by heated steam of 110 deg.C or higher. CONSTITUTION:The specific relation formula in the heated steam treatment is as follows: 300>=H>=A/T (wherein H: treating time in sec, T: temperaure in deg.C, A: coefficient about crystal layer thickness t, indicated by formula A=exp(at+b) wherein a is 0.01-0.05 and b is 1.0-5.0). Dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol are molten polymer to obtain granules of polyethlene terephthalate. They are exposed to the atmosphere of heated steam for a short time under the above-mentioned relational condition. Then, they are heated and dried from 180 deg.C to 230 deg.C for three hours under reduced pressure and polymerized in solid state to obtain polyester chips the hang-up rate thereof is almost zero.

    • PURPOSE:To decrease scale which deposits inside a polyester production apparatus, by irradiating the apparatus with ultrasonic waves during esterification or transesterification of a dicarboxylic acid with a glycol. CONSTITUTION:In a process for producing a polyester by subjecting a dicarboxylic acid and/or its derivative and a glycol to esterification or transesterification and polycondensing the product, the reaction zone is irradiated with ultrasonic waves during, among all of the steps of this process, at least an esterification or transesterification step. Said irradiation with ultrasonic waves may be performed throughout the entire process of the polyester production process and, especially, it is preferable that such irradiation is performed during both of an esterification or transesterification step and a prepolymerization step. It is preferable to perform such irradiation continuously from the start of esterification or transesterification. As the ultrasonic waves for irradiation, those having a frequency of 10-200kHz and a power of 0.5-10kW are desirable.
