    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for making contaminated soil harmless capable of preventing the resynthesis of contaminants in contaminated soil even if the cooling capacity of its cooler is temporarily decreased.
      SOLUTION: The system 1 for making contaminated soil harmless by decomposing contaminants contained in contaminated soil comprises a vacuum reduction-reactor/heater 24 for decomposing contaminants contained in contaminated soil by heating and reducing the contaminants in vacuo, and a cooling device 25 for cooling the contaminated soil whose contaminants have been decomposed by the vacuum reduction-reactor/heater 24, down to a prescribed temperature or below to prevent the resynthesis of the contaminants. The system is characterized in that the cooling device 25 is equipped with a thermometer disposed therein for measuring a temperature at a plurality of locations therein, a water sprayer 25d for spraying a cooling liquid onto at least one location selected from the above plurality of locations therein, and a cooling-device controller 93 that determines the location(s) whereon the cooling liquid is to be sprayed by the water sprayer 25d according to the temperature measured by the thermometer.

The vacuum reduction-reactor/heater 24 is equipped with a feed port 24f for feeding contaminated soil thereinto or a discharge port 24g for discharging contaminated soil therefrom. The feed port 24f and the discharge port 24g are each equipped with a primary hood 24k that prevents a gas from directly flowing between the feed port 24f or discharge port 24g and outside. The primary hoods 24k are each covered with a secondary hood 24m that prevents a gas from directly flowing between each of the primary hoods 24k and outside. The sucking device is connected to the secondary hoods 24m.
