    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detoxify heavy metals, in particular, Pb-containing basic waste, such as basic waste refractories like basic brick chips, basic slug, basic soot, or basic sludge, with a method requiring no chemical agent cost to prevent elution of the heavy metals.
      SOLUTION: Basic waste generated in a steel mill with particle sizes less than 25 mm, containing heavy metals and/or F is mixed with a pickling waste liquid of inorganic acid containing 3-10 mass% of ferrous ions discharged from a manufacturing process of steel products, at a ratio obtaining pH of the mixed liquid within the range of 8-13, and the mixture is cured by leaving it in the atmosphere or by heating. Heavy metals are immobilized as an insoluble magnetite compound to prevent elution of them.
