    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for decomposing a nitrogen compound and a method for treating exhaust gas containing the nitrogen compound capable of efficiently decomposing the nitrogen compound in exhaust gas to nitrogen while restraining NOx and N 2 O being air pollutants to the utmost from being produced as by-products. SOLUTION: This is a catalyst for decomposing a nitrogen compound containing manganese oxide, cerium oxide and zeolite in which a content of manganese oxide is 1-80 wt.% in terms of MnO 2 and a content of cerium oxide is 1-30 wt.% in terms of CeO 2 . The nitrogen compound in exhaust gas can be removed by oxidative decomposition at the decomposition rate of the nitrogen compound exceeding 90% while restraining NOx and N 2 O to the utmost from being produced as by-products by using the catalyst.       3 molar ratio. Organic nitrogen compound-containing exhaust gas is brought into contact with the catalyst for decomposing the organic nitrogen compound so that the organic nitrogen compound in the exhaust gas is oxidized, decomposed efficiently and removed.
