    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric dimmer element with which a shading phenomenon of an optical system is effectively eliminated while reducing the size of the electric dimmer element and lowering the cost thereof, a lens barrel and an imaging apparatus.
      SOLUTION: The liquid crystal dimmer element 16 has a liquid crystal layer 1614 sealed in between two electrodes, i.e. between first and second transparent electrodes 1606, 1608 placed opposite to each other, wherein transmittance of light passing through the layer in the direction of the first and second transparent electrodes 1606, 1608 is varied corresponding to a driving signal applied to the first and second transparent electrodes 1606, 1608. The thickness of the liquid crystal layer 1614 is formed with a dimension gradually decreasing as going from a center part of the contour to the periphery. In other words, the thickness of the liquid crystal layer 1614, which is the dimension of a gap between the first and second transparent electrodes 1606, 1608, is constructed so as to be partly different from one another along the first and second transparent electrodes 1606, 1608.
