    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct displacement between both images generated when superimposing and displaying a left-eye image and a right-eye image arranged in a vertical direction and displayed on a display panel on a screen by a projection optical system. SOLUTION: A resolution conversion unit 204L for the left-eye image comprises a vertical conversion unit 204V and a horizontal conversion unit 204H. The vertical conversion unit 204V performs vertical resolution conversion processing to adjust the number of pixels in a vertical direction, and the horizontal conversion unit 204H performs horizontal resolution conversion processing to adjust the number of pixels in a horizontal direction. Also, the horizontal conversion unit 204H performs conversion processing to adjust a horizontal size. Also, the vertical conversion unit 204V performs conversion processing to correct a vertical bow-like distortion. Thus, since the conversion processing for horizontal size adjustment and the conversion processing for the correction of the vertical bow-like distortion are possible, it becomes possible to correct the displacement due to the difference of the horizontal size and the vertical bow-like distortion between the left-eye image and the right-eye image on the screen. The generation of the friar on the image screen is thereby obviated even if the level of the video signal is large; in addition, the dynamic range of the liquid crystal display element is effectively utilized.
