SOLUTION: A color liquid crystal display device includes a transmission type color liquid crystal display panel 10, and a backlight device 20 provided on the back surface side of this color liquid crystal display panel 10. The backlight device 20 includes a plurality of light emitting diode groups 30 connected in series, a driver 31 provided corresponding to each light emitting diode group 30 to drive the light emitting diode group 30, and a temperature sensor 32 for detecting the temperature of each light emitting diode group 30. The light emitting diode group 30 is arranged to be located in the same temperature region of the display device. The driver 31 regulates the current flowing to the light emitting diode according to the temperature detected by the temperature sensor 32 so that the luminance becomes constant even when the temperature changes in the light emitting diode group 30. The drive control unit 38 calculates, upon powering on the device, the correction amount based on a value sensed by the temperature sensor 41, adds the calculated correction amount to the initial current amount of the light emitting diodes and activates the light emitting diodes with a corrected initial current amount.
