    • PURPOSE:To facilitate the adjustment of the position of a measuring device by using 4 pieces of ultrasonic transmitters and receivers which are placed on the top, bottom, right and left of a cable and move back and forth, in measuring the sheath thickness of the cable which is immersed in cooling water and is traveling. CONSTITUTION:With a cable which is immersed in cooling water and is traveling in-between, total 4 pieces of ultrasonic transmitters and receivers are disposed on the top, bottom, right and left thereof, by deviating the axial positions of the cable from each other. These transmitters and receivers are them moved back and forth in the transverse direction of the cable, and from the reception outputs of that time, the respective sheath thicknesses and thickness deviation rates of the top, bottom, right and left of the cable are calculated and displayed by using a control processing unit (CPU). For example, ultrasonic transmitters and receivers 2a and 2b are mounted with slight deviation in the axial positions to the top and bottom of the cable 1, and are moved back and forth to the right and left by a motor 6 via a coupling member 4. With respect to the transmitters and receivers 3a and 3b, they are vertically moved, and the signals thereof are processed with the CPU and are displayed in a display device 9.
