      SOLUTION: A fixture 21 is used when the sleeve brick 5 is inserted into the inside of a block brick 4 arranged in a molten steel tapping hole 1b in a converter. A sealing iron-plate 23 for supporting the one side of the sleeve brick 5, is fixed to one side end part of a cylindrical metallic material 22 for inserting the sleeve brick 5. A metallic material 24 for preventing coming-off by supporting the other side end part of the sleeve brick 5 and for preventing the shifting by performing the positioning, is fixed at the prescribed position of the other end part of the cylindrical metallic material 22. Clayey monolithic refractory 25 is disposed at the cylindrical metallic material side of the sealing iron plate 23 in the outer peripheral part at one-end side of the sleeve brick 5. A pipe 26 for pressing in the gap-filling material 7 is fitted by penetrating the sealing iron-plate 23 and the clayey monolithic refractory 25. The gap-filling material 7 is filled up into the gap between the sleeve brick 5 and the block brick 4 from the outside of the furnace by inserting this sleeve brick 5 into the inner part of the molten steel tapping hole 1b.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the earliest possible start of wear brick laying by reducing the internal atmospheric temperature of a converter and the surface temperature of permanent brick to predetermined temperatures early while dispensing with additional equipment such as a fan and a special spray machine.
      SOLUTION: In a cooling method, after a converter is stopped, a replaceable bottom 3 is removed and wear brick is disassembled. Dry ice 7 is dropped on a converter bottom section with the replaceable bottom 3 removed, and cold air is fed into the converter for cooling. The dry ice 7, which is used as a refrigerant, is dropped in 10 to 20 kg pieces in an amount of 5 to 7 tons per 100 tons of permanent brick. The cold air is sprayed in the converter at 5 to 20°C at a feed rate of 300 to 400 Nm
      3 per hour. Outside air can thus pass through the converter to effectively reduce the temperature of the permanent brick and converter atmosphere.
