    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound absorption material which achieves a small environmental load and low costs and has high sound absorptivity and good appearance, and to provide a printer using the sound absorption material.SOLUTION: An exterior case 2 of a printer 1 includes an open/close cover 5 which is formed by a transparent or translucent resin. A sound absorption material 10 is attached to a rear surface 5a of the open/close cover 5. The sound absorption material 10 includes: a decoration pattern printed surface 11; and a text printed surface 12 formed at the reverse side of the decoration pattern printed surface 11. When the open/close cover 5 is closed, a decoration pattern 11a is seen through from the outer side of the printer 1 to present a good appearance. When the open/close cover 5 is opened, text information 12a and an explanatory drawing 12b, which are printed on the text printed surface 12, are seen. The sound absorption material 10 is formed by an aggregate of cellulose fibers which are fiberized by a dry method, i.e. cutting used paper etc. Thus, the sound absorption material has higher sound absorptivity than urethane foam and achieves a low environmental load and low costs.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change over between a normal operation mode and a power saving mode, without making the user feel inconvenient, using a simple configuration. SOLUTION: In this clocking device 1 incorporating a power generator 40 capturing kinetic energy by the use of an oscillating weight to generate power, a power generation detecting circuit 91 detects whether the power generator 40 is generating power, and it is transferred from a display mode to the power-saving mode to stop time display when a power non-generation time exceeds a prescribed waiting time. A power non-generation time measuring circuit 99 receives a detection result of the power generation detection circuit 91 to measure the power non-generation time, wherein the power generator 40 is in a power non-generation state, in the display mode, and measures a continuing time of the power saving mode, in the power saving mode. • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of compensating printing defects of a thermal printer compensating printing defects occurring by a line thermal head including an unprintable heating element to a trouble-free level for practical use.SOLUTION: In the thermal printer 1, it is detected whether each heating element H in the line thermal head 11 is a normal element Ha or a defective element Hb. In printing operation in which a defective element H4 and normal elements H3, H5 on both sides thereof are driven at the same time, the normal elements H3, H5 are driven by a second driving signal SS2 having a higher effective applied voltage than a normal first driving signal SS1 so that a printed dot d2 printed by the normal elements H3, H5 become larger in dot diameter than a printed dot d1 printed in normal printing. Defects of a printed dot printed by the defective element H4 can be compensated by the printed dot d2 printed by the both side normal elements H3, H5 to a trouble-free state for practical use, and an adverse effect of not being able to perform printing until replacing a head can be prevented.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading method and apparatus wherein the reading speed is improved regardless of rise of resolution in a subscanning direction when reading a monochromatic image. SOLUTION: When a document 11 is read as a monochromatic image and a distance between read positions in the subscanning direction of the document 11 is shorter than that between imaging lines, a subscanning means transfers a line sensor 30 by a read interval until a transfer distance of the line sensor 30 from a prescribed position gets equal to an interval of imaging lines, and the subscanning means transfers the line sensor 30 from the prescribed position to a distance corresponding to a product between the interval of imaging line and the number of imaging lines after the transfer distance of the line sensor 30 is made equal to the interval of imaging lines, and the line sensor 30 reads the document 11 in respective imaging lines simultaneously each time when being transferred by the subscanning means. • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the malfunction of electronic apparatuses having a booster circuit by the cause of sudden variation of source voltage due to the change of a boosting ratio. SOLUTION: The state that electric charge is forwarded from a large capacity secondary power source 48 to an auxiliary capacitor 80 with a boosting ration M' (M' is positive real number other than 1) via a booster circuit, is moved to a state that the large capacity power source 48 is electrically connected directly to the auxiliary capacitor 80. At this moment, by transferring the electric energy from the large capacity secondary power source 48 to the auxiliary capacitor 80 via the booster circuit at non-boosting state with boosting ratio, M=1 and the electric potential difference between the large capacity secondary power source 48 to the auxiliary capacitor 80 is set below a specific value. Since no sudden voltage variation in the power source is resulted, the malfunction of electronic apparatus due to sudden voltage variation in power source can be prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
