2 -COO-R (wherein, X is a chlorine atom or bromine atom; and R is the same as defined above) with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal sulfide or alkali metal hydrogensulfide in the presence of an aqueous pH buffer solution having a pH range of between 5 and 8, and, optionally, in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst.
