    • PURPOSE:To make uniform heat conductive quantity through copper plates of a mold and to produce a continuous cast slab having excellent quality by forming one pair of copper plates at short wall sides forming the mold to curved shape in continuous casting apparatus for molten steel under consideration of solidified shrinking rate of the molten steel in the mold caused by conditions of steel kind of the molten steel, casting velocity, mold cooling condition, etc. CONSTITUTION:At the time of pouring the molten steel into the mold for continuous casting composed of each two pieces of long wall side copper plates and short wall side copper plates in the continuous casting apparatus for molten steel to draw out this as continuous cast slab, the faced two pieces of short wall side copper plates 1 constituting the mold are deformed at three positions L1, L2, L3 of a backup frame 2 in the rear to form the curved face. In this case, under consideration of the solidified shrinking rate with the steel kind of the molten steel for continuous casting, with the heat conductive quantity through copper plate in the mold according to the casting velocity and according to the cooling condition in the mold, the short wall side copper plate 1 is deformed as matching free solidified shrinkage profile of the molten steel by using L1 and L3 points as supporting points and L2 point as loading point. The solidified shell is uniformly developed in the mold and the mold for continuous casting having a little breakout of molten steel and wear of the short wall side copper plate, is obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To decrease the concn. of hydrogen in a molten steel and to obtain a unidirectionally solidified steel ingot having no blowholes by decreasing the parital pressure of hydrogen in the atmosphere in a casting mold during operation. CONSTITUTION:A casting mold 3 provided with a heat insulating sleeve 4 is covered by a heat insulating cover 11 provided with a blowing port 9 for dehydrated air and a discharging part 10 for the atmosphere in the casting mold. The dehydrated air of a high temp. is blown into the mold 3 to substitute the atmosphere in the casting mold with said air. As a result, the partial pressure of hydrogen in the atmosphere in the casting mold is decreased with an increase in the volume of the air to be blown from the same state as in the conventional casting mold wherein the substitution with the air is hardly performed. The concn. of the hydrogen in the molten steel is thereby decreased. As a result, a unidirectionally solidified steel ingot obviating the generation of the blowholes which are not press-stuck in a rolling stage is obtd. The air to be blown is preferably of >=0.1Nm /m .sec flow rate and >=400 deg.C.
