摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain purified metal in good yields by solidifying and growing the molten metal in a mold from the bottom part, and discharging the unsolidified molten metal then supplying fresh molten metal and again solidifying and growing the same. CONSTITUTION:Molten metal 5 of Al or the like to be refined is supplied into a mold 1 which is fitted with a bottom base 13 in the bottom part. The molten metal 5 is kept at the temp. suitable for crystallization with heaters 2. The molten metal 5 is cooled from the base 13 side and the base 13 deposited and solidified with a crystal is lowered slowly to make a purified ingot 7 gradually. At this time, a rotary agitator 6 is operated simultaneously to disperse the solute (e.g.; Fe, Si) discharged at a solidification interface 14 into the molten metal 5. Following to this, a cooling medium is released 8 to cool the molten metal 5. At the suitable point of the time when the concn. of the solute in the metal 5 increases, the metal 5 is sucked and discharged through an impure molten metal suction pipe 9 of a suction ladle 10. Next, the fresh molten metal 5 is supplied into the mold 1 through a supply trough 4, and again the metal is subjected to the operation of cooling, solidifying and discharging. By the repetition of such operation, the metallic ingot purified over the entire length of the ingot is obtained.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent generation of fir-like structure in the bottom of a casting ingot in the stage of casting continuously an Al alloy for rolling which crystallizes an Al-Fe intermetallic compd. in the casting ingot by controlling the content of B in the bottom part of the casting ingot and cooling rate in the initial period of casting within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:A dummy molten metal 3 is put onto a bottom plate 2 disposed on the bottom of a water-cooled pattern 1 in the initial period of casting and normal continuous casting is started just before the top surface thereof solidifies in the stage of casting continuously an Al-Fe alloy added with B. The quick cooling of the molten Al alloy by the bottom plate 2 is obviated by the presence of the dummy metal 3 and therefore no gap is formed between the plate 2 and the casting ingot. The control of the cooling rate in the part at least >=100mm. above the bottom of the casting ingot to the relation between the content of B and the cooling rate in the region (x) enclosed by the lines connecting the points a, b, c, d in the figure 2 is thus made possible. The formation of the fir-like structure in the bottom of the casting ingot of such Al alloy is obviated and the formation of different color tones in the stage of anodizing treatment is prevented.

The molten aluminum or aluminum alloy is then continuously cast at the relation between the content B(ppm) of boron at the point of >=33mm. thickness from the surface of a ingot in the thickness direction thereof and a cooling rate R( deg.C/sec) which is so controlled as to attain the area above the straight lines connecting the points a(B=0, R=7), b(B=3, R=7), c(B=3, R=11), d(B=25, R=5) shown in the figure. The outside structure of a fir is thickly formed by the above-mentioned method, by which the amt. of the surface to be machined is reduced and the yield of the product is improved.
