    • PURPOSE:To allow the tip part of a torch to exactly follow up the center line of a butt weld zone and to obtain desired weld strength by picking up the images of the center line of the butt weld zone and the tip of the torch by a two-dimensional CCD camera. CONSTITUTION:A lens groups 51 of the two-dimensional CCD camera 5 attenuates arc light to about the extent to allow a two-dimensional image sensor 52 to detect the welding image and picks up the image of the weld line. The sensor 52 converts the weld image to the electric charge corresponding to the lightness of the weld line, resolves the charge in X-, Y-directions and transfers the same successively to an A/D conversion part 6. The A/D conversion part 6 converts the lightness values of the weld line picked up by the CCD camera 5 to the digital values of plural gradations and outputs the same to an image data memory 7. An arithmetic processor 8 measures the center line L of the butt weld zone and further controls the tip of the torch so as to follow up the center position of the butt weld zone. An output interface 9 aligns the tip of the torch and the center line of the butt part according to the tracking command signal from a control section.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the blister and partial exfoliation of a clad material by controlling the surface of press-welding rolls to a specific temp. at the time of longitudinally press-welding a bar of a belt-like good electrical conductor metal narrower than the width of a belt-like base metal onto the base metal surface of an alloy material. CONSTITUTION:The belt-like base metal 1 having about 0.2-1.0mm thickness is let off from a bobbin 1 and the surface to be clad is polished by a wire brush 5, etc., by which the surface is cleaned up. The bar of the good electrical conductor metal sized about 0.005-0.1mm thickness and let off from the bobbin is superposed and press-welded to the base metal 1 near the inlet of work rolls 6 to form the clad material 9 which is then coiled. The upper and lower work rolls 6 and/or upper and lower back up rolls 7 are made hollow in this stage and water or warm water is passed in the rolls to control the surface temp. of the rolls to the temp. above the dew condensation point of the atmosphere around the rolls and below the dew condensation +30 deg.C. The intrusion of the condensed water into the space between the base metal 1 and the bar 2 is thereby prevented and the generation of the blister and partial exfoliation in the clad material 9 is prevented.
