SOLUTION: A plurality of kinds of colors are set on the table of a color- table control block 13 by a CPU 18. By using the color-table control block 13, the table on which the plurality of kinds of colors are set is retrieved with reference to the signal level of a luminance signal obtained from an input color image signal. A signal which indicates a color region group corresponding to every color is fetched as a reference. A color-region comparison block 14 compares the signal indicating the color region group as the reference with the signal level of a color signal obtained form the input color image signal so as to judge whether it is included in the color region group as the reference. Color extraction results with reference to the input color image signal obtained as a result are gathered so as to correspond to a position inside an image, and they are stored as a unit.

    • PURPOSE: To always provide proper exposure by controlling a diaphragm means based on the luminance level of a picture element having the chrominance information of a high saturation degree among image data fetched into an image memory regardlessly of the lightness of the background of an object. CONSTITUTION: Inside a diaphragm control signal processing circuit 12, it is decided whether a saturation degree S concerning each picture element exceeds a threshold value ε or not. When the luminance level of a picture is high like back light, the luminance values of all the picture elements, whose saturation degree S exceeds the threshold value ε, are integrated and normalized. When the normalized integrated value is compared with a reference value, it is larger than the reference value. Therefore, a diaphragm control signal 9 for further closing the diaphragm of a lens is outputted and an iris 4 is controlled. When the luminance level is low like intensive follow light, the luminance values of all the picture elements, whose saturation degree S exceeds the threshold value ε, are integrated and normalized. When the normalized integrated value is compared with a reference value, it is smaller than the reference value. Therefore, the signal 9 for opening the diaphragm of the lens is outputted to an iris motor 13 and the iris 4 of a lens block 2 is controlled.

    • PURPOSE:To surely trace an object by continuously detecting a position of an object in a picture so as to control panning or tilt of a television camera depending on the detected position of the object thereby extracting a characteristic quantity in matching with a delicate color difference and color change. CONSTITUTION:When a picture with luminance Y, hue H and saturation S is stored in a picture memory 12, an interrupt signal INT is outputted from a memory control block 13 by a microcomputer 14. A characteristic quantity of a tracking object is extracted by setting an object in existence in the middle of the screen when a switch 16 of a panning/tilt device 15 is pushed. The position of the object is detected based on the set characteristic quantity and the picture in the picture memory 12 and the result of detection is outputted to a motor of the panning/tilt device 15 to drive a television camera 10. Then updating of picture data in the picture memory 12, position detection by the microcomputer 14 and control of the television camera 10 are repeated.

    • PURPOSE:To surely track a target having a hue that easily varies and also to surely track a target even when two objects of the same color cross to each other by treating the luminance and color difference signals as a single vector without discriminating white, black and other colors from each other. CONSTITUTION:The color image signal TV1 photographed by a TV camera 10 is decimated after undergoing the band limitation through an LPF of a filter/converter block 11. Thus the luminance and the color difference are acquired and independently stored in an image memory 12. When an image is stored in the memory 12, a microcomputer 14 sets the feature vector of a target object and calculates the differences of angles and distances between the feature vector and the vector consisting of the luminance and color difference signals included in the image of the memory 12. Then the microcomputer 14 calculates a one-dimensional evaluation function as the binary data and decides the position of the target object. Thus it is possible to surely track a white or black target that has an easily variable hue and also to surely track a target even when two objects of the same color cross to each other.
