摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To search a bit plane which first appears by a significant coefficient with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The encoder of this invention searches a bit plane the significant coefficient of which first appears as a pre-processing of an EBCOT (Embedded Block Coding with Optimized Truncation) of the JPEG2000. The encoder is provided with a register for latching bit location data by each code block. The encoder identifies a code block of absolute value data of each received wavelet coefficient and calculates OR between the received absolute value data and the bit location data latched in the register. The encoder allows the register to latch again the arithmetic result as new bit location. The encoder applies the OR arithmetic operation above to all data in a wavelet transform area being an encoding object and obtains a bit plane of a highest position among bit planes including effective bits by each block on the basis of the bit location data finally obtained. 摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image compression controller where quantization coefficient control is simplified in the process of image compression and high-speed image compression processing is attained thereby. SOLUTION: The image compression controller is provided with quantization circuits 102, 103 that apply first quantization to an output signal of a DCT circuit 101 on the basis of 1st quantization coefficients QKa, QKb and apply 2nd quantization by one of the circuits on the basis of a 2nd quantization coefficient QKre, with counters 104, 105 that count number of '0s' in the 1st quantization data, a quantization coefficient control circuit 110 that generates a plurality of reference control coefficients and generates a control coefficient on the basis of the count of each counter and a 0 reference value, multipliers 107, 108 that generates the 1st quantization coefficients on the basis of the reference quantization coefficient and a reference control coefficient and generate the 2nd quantization coefficient on the basis of the control coefficient and the reference quantization coefficient and an entropy coding circuit 111 that conducts entropy coding with respect to the 2nd quantization data.
