    • PURPOSE:To manufacture ferromagnetic metal particles for magnetic recording medium having excellent oxidation resistance by treating surfaces of fine particles of the ferromagnetic metal material with 2, 3-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride. CONSTITUTION:The fine particles (>= about 25m /g specific surface area) of the ferromagnetic metal material (Co, Ni, etc.,) or the ferromagnetic alloy material (Fe-Co, Fe-Ni, etc.,) are dipped into the treating solution of 2, 3-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride dissolved in an organic solvent and 2, 3-naphthalene carboxylic acid or this anhydride is coated at about 0.03-30wt. parts to 100wt. parts of the ferromagnetic metal particles. By this method, the ferromagnetic metal particles having excellent oxidation resistance, is obtd. and by kneading this with a resin bonding agent and the organic solvent, etc., and coating on a non-magnetic supporting body, the magnetic recording medium having high quality can be manufactured.

    • PURPOSE:To improve oxidation resistance by depositing a compd. comprising cyclohexane as the skeleton and containing plural hydroxide groups on the surface of ferromagnetic metal particles. CONSTITUTION:The surface of ferromagnetic metal particles are covered with deposition of a compd. comprising cyclohexane as the skeleton and containing plural hydroxide groups. The ferromagnetic metal particles consist of a ferromag netic metal material such as Fe, Ni, Co, etc., or ferromagnetic alloy material essentially comprising Fe, Ni and Co, such as Fe-Ni alloy, Fe-Ni-Co alloy, etc. The compd. comprising cyclohexane as the skeleton and containing plural hydroxide groups is, for example, 1,2-dihydroxy cylohexane, 1,3-dihydroxy cyclo hexane, etc. This compd. is deposited on the surface of the ferromagnetic metal particles by a solution method, for example, that the compd. is dissolved in a solvent to prepare a solution and the ferromagnetic metal particles are dipped in this soln. Thereby, oxidation resistance of particles at high humidity is im proved and deterioration of excellent magnetic characteristics such as magnetiza tion quantity is suppressed.
