The detecting head 42 lead a pulse signal to an external apparatus by receiving lights emitted from light emitting parts 58a to 58d after being transmitted through the glass scale 40 in the receiving part of the detecting head 42 and the displacing amount of the slide table 14 is continuously detected by counting the number of pulses.
