SOLUTION: This monitoring method for protective zone comprises transmitting one beam in the direction of the protective zone by a device, receiving the beam reflected/returned by the object arranged in the protective zone, and quantitatively determining the distance between the device and the object. Otherwise, this method comprises transmitting at least two beams having an angle between the both; receiving a first beam reflected/returned by the object when the object is present in the protective zone; receiving a second beam reflected/ returned from a position arranged out of the protective zone when no object is present in the protective zone; and arranging the device so as to be capable of quantitatively determining both the distances to the object and the second position from the device. This monitoring device is applied to this monitoring method.
