    • PURPOSE:To improve the precision of measurement in case of a coated electric wire having a short outside diameter and a thin coating by picking up the transmission X-ray image of the coated electric wire through a zoom lens, which is moved specifically, by an image sensor. CONSTITUTION:An image sensor 3 which picks up the transmission X-ray image, which is irradiated to a coated electric wire F, through a zoom lens 2 is connected to a signal processing circuit 4, and electric signals S1, S2, and S indicating coating thicknesses t1 and t2 and a conductor diameter (t) of the electric wire F are attained and displayed on a display device D. An electric signal S3 indicating the outside diameter of the electric wire F is attained in a coating outside diameter operator 6 on a basis of the output of the sensor 3 and is outputted to a comparator 8, and an electric signal S0 consisting of bits whose number is smaller than a maximum number of effective elements in the scanning direction of the light receiving face of the sensor is sent to the comparator 8 by a setter 7, and a servomotor 9 driving the lens 2 is controlled by their difference signal H. Thus, the electric wire F is focused on the whole of the light receiving face of the sensor 3.

    • PURPOSE:To measure the foaming ratio of an insulator by determining an electrostatic capacitance between an electrode and a cable while an insulating cylinder with the electrode applied on a part of the inner surface thereof is rotating centered on a cable covered with a foamed insulator. CONSTITUTION:A cable 1 covered with a foamed insulator 2 runs at the center of an insulating cylinder 4 rotated with a driving roller 5 in the axial direction thereof. A conductive measuring electrode 6 is applied on the inner surface of the insulating cylinder 4 and a processor 9 connected electrically to a conductor 3 by way of a slip ring 8 and a tongue piece 12. The foaming ratio of the insulator 2 can be determined with respect to the area corresponding to that of the electrode 6 by measuring the electrostatic capacitance between the electrode 6 and the conductor 3 with the processor 9. The continuous measured value varies momentarily with the rotation of the insulating cylinder 4. Thus, based on the data, an extruder for manufacturing cables is controlled to correct the deviation in the foaming of the insulator.
