    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for producing particles having modified surfaces which enable the production of the particles each having a modified surface and a comparatively small and uniform particle diameter by a simple apparatus and operation in a short time at a low cost. SOLUTION: First a suspension is prepared by suspending solid particles in a liquid in a droplet production and electrofication section 2, secondly droplets are formed by spraying the suspension and the droplets are made to be electrically charged by at least one needle electrode applied with a high voltage, and thereafter the charged droplets are introduced into a modification section 4 through a droplet-feeding section 3 in order to vaporize the liquid in the droplets. Thus, a charged quantity of a liquid molecule is increased to cleave the bond of the liquid molecular and the liquid molecule where the bond is cleaved reacts with the surface of the solid particle, thereby it is possible to introduce at least one substituent on the surface of the solid particle and to chemically modify the particle.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process for hydrophilic particles that can stably hydrophilizing hydrophobic substance in excellent reproducibility and a production process for hydrophilic particles from pigment without occurrence of color change before and after the hydrophilization treatment. SOLUTION: The apparatus for producing hydrophilic particles is equipped with the sprayer 10 that inject the solution 14 prepared by dissolving the hydrophobic substance in an acidic solution (including at least sulfuric acid and chlorosulfonic acid at a volume ratio of 20/1-1/20) and with the mixing zone 22b in which the liquid particles formed in the sprayer 10 are exposed to super- saturated steam to allow water to condense on the surface of the liquid particles. The hydrophobic substance gets hydrophilic, when it is dissolved in the acidic solution. Super-saturated steam condenses into water particles around the liquid particles and mix with the solution, when it comes into contact with the liquid particles, resultantly the solution is diluted. Consequently the hydrophilic substance dissolved in the acidic solution is precipitated out as the objective hydrophilic particles.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct recording imaging system in which developer can be charged and fed stably. SOLUTION: In the developer charger 16 of the imaging system 1, ions generated from ion generating sections 14,... are irradiated, as an ion flow F, to the developer reservoir 13 at a developer supply section 15. Developer charged by the ion flow F ascends as a cloud and reaches a flight control section 18. A voltage corresponding to image information is then applied to each gate 18a at the flight control section 18 and the developer passed through the gate 18a flies to the counter electrode 19 side through a field formed between the gate 18a and the counter electrode 19 where the developer adheres onto a recording medium S carried from resist rollers 5, 5 to form a developer image. Subsequently, the recording medium S is carried to a fixing section 3 and passed between a pressure roller 11 and a heat roller 10 while being clamped and the developer image is hot pressed and fixed.
