    • PURPOSE: To predict and evaluate a penetration rate of a percutaneously administered drug through the stratum corneum according to a simple test in a short time by applying the drug to the surface of skin and then measuring the amount of the drug entering the stratum corneum under transient conditions twice at a time interval. CONSTITUTION: A drug (e.g. the one to be compounded in a percutaneous drug transport system such as a cataplasma, a plaster, a pasta or an ointment, applied to the skin surface and introduced through the skin into the body) is applied to the skin surface of a living body and the amount of the drug entering the stratum corneum is then measured twice under transient conditions at a time interval. The first measurement is preferably carried out after the passage of 10min from the application and the second measurement is conducted after the passage of 30min thereafter. The diffusion coefficient and the partition coefficient are determined on the basis of the measured amount of the drug in the stratum corneum to thereby determine the penetration rate of the drug in a steady state. The percutaneous penetration rate of the drug is then evaluated and predicted. The total amount of the drug entering the stratum corneum is determined by a stripping method using a tacky tape.
