摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain title polymer suitable for sanitary articles, etc., by suspending an aqueous solution of acrylic acid and its alkali metal salt in a specified solvent in the presence of a surfactant and subjecting the suspension to reversed phase suspension polymerization in the presence of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator. CONSTITUTION:A water-absorbent having a high absorptive capacity for an aqueous electrolyte solution as well as pure water is produced by suspending an aqueous solution of acrylic acid and its alkali metal salt, prepared by partially (neutralization degree 50-98mol%) neutralizing the acid with an alkali such as NaOH or NH4OH, in an alicyclic or aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent such as cyclohexane, in the presence of a surfactant, HLB 8-12, such as sorbitan monolaurate, subjecting the resulting suspension to reversed phase suspension polymerization in the presence of a water-soluble polymerization initiator such as potassium persulfate and, if necessary, crosslinking the product by addition of about 0.005-5.0wt%, based on monomer, crosslinking agent such as ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide the titled compsn. which has a very high swelling rate and a high swelling ratio and has no fear of dropping out of a water-absorbing resin, by miding an elastomer, a water-absorbing resin and a water-soluble resin. CONSTITUTION:A water-swellable elastomer compsn. is obtd. by uniformly mixing 10-200pts.wt. water-absorbing resin (e.g. crosslinked polyacrylate salt) and 1-50pts.wt. water-soluble resin (e.g. polyethylene oxide) with 100pts.wt. elastomer (e.g. chloroprene rubber). The compsn. has no fear of dropping out of the water-absorbing resin. The compsn. has a very high swelling rate and a high swelling ratio and is suitable for use in filling and sealing gaps and stopping water in civil engineering and building works and for use in hermetically sealing apparatuses.

摘要： PURPOSE:To improve the dispersibility in water and water absorptivity of a water-absorbing resin, by crosslinking the water-absorbing resin containing a carboxylate as a constituent with a specified crosslinking agent in the presence of water in an inert solvent. CONSTITUTION:0.2-20pts.wt. inert solvent (e.g., methanol) and 0.01-1.3pts.wt. water are added to 1pt.wt. water-absorbing resin containing a carboxylate as a constituent (e.g., acrylic acid (salt)/methacrylic acid (salt) copolymer). Then, 0.005-5.0wt%, based on the resin, crosslinking agent having at least two functional groups, e.g., ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether, is added, and the mixture is heated at 40-150 deg.C under reflux to effect crosslinking. EFFECT:It is possible to obtain a water-absorbing resin which does not form undissolved lumps, which otherwise form easily at an early stage of water absorption, and is excellent in dispersibility in water and rate of water absorption.

This salt is added to a water-insoluble base material, such as pulp or synthetic resin, and mixed, thus permitting the base to have water absorptivity, and therefore, wide uses for sanitary material, agricultural and horticultural materials, construction materials, etc.

摘要： PURPOSE:To safely obtain the titled polymer with excellent water absorption properties, by means of polymerization at a specified temperature and at a reduced pressure corresponding to the boiling pt. of the solvent, in the inverted-phase suspension polymerization of acrylic acid (alkali salt) in an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent. CONSTITUTION:Acrylic acid is partially neutralized to an extent of 50-90mol% neutralization with sodium hydroxide, etc., and suspended in an alicyclic hydrocarbon solvent, such as cyclohexane or methylcyclohexane, containing a lipophilic surfactant such as sorbitol monostearate. Then it is subjected to the inverter-phase suspension polymerization in the presence of a water-soluble radical polymerization catalyst such as potassium persulfate or sodium persulfate. By carrying out said polymerization at 40-70 deg.C and at a reduced pressure corresponding to the boiling point of the solvent used, the heat of polymerization is removed by means of boiling of the solvent, which permits a stable polymerization and production of a polymer excellent in product quality etc.
