摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bright projection image by enhancing the incident efficiency of a liquid crystal light valve by using a polarized light converter in a projection type liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: The projection type liquid crystal display is provided with a first multiple-ocular lens which condenses light beams from a light source and forms a plurality of two-dimensional light sources, a second multiple-ocular lens which superposes the image of the first multiple-ocular lens on an irradiation surface, and a polarized light separation means which is arranged between the first multiple-ocular lens and the second multiple-ocular lens, and separates spatially random polarized light beams from the light source in linearly polarized beams whose polarization planes are orthogonal to each other. Brightness and uniformity are improved by irradiating a first optical separation means with either one of the linearly polarized light beams which are polarized and split, and irradiating a second optical separation means with another beam.

SOLUTION: A movement detecting section 146 detects the movement of the head of the user (a rotational or a linear motion) based on the output of a sensor 120. If the detection result exceeds a first threshold value, the display of information is stopped. When the result becomes less than a second threshold value, that is less than the first threshold value, the display of the information is restarted. If the detection result is located between third and fourth threshold values, the display portion of the information is moved on the screen surface of the element 112 in accordance with the movement of the user. If the detection result exceeds the fourth threshold value, the display of the information is stopped.

SOLUTION: As a color synthesizing means, the perpendicular parts of four rectangular prisms are mutually faced, the cross shape is formed between the faces sandwiching the rectangular part, and an optical prism is used for arranging two kinds of different color light selective reflecting layers so as to form the cross shape along the inner faces forming this cross shape. White light emitted from a light source 50 is collimated by a condenser lens 51, made incident to a 1st cube prism 52 and separated into three colors of red, blue and green. The decomposed light is made incident to a transmissive light value 54 after its direction is bent by a mirror 53. The light value is arranged at a position to form the image with a projection lens 56. A 2nd cube prism 55 synthesizes the transmission of the light valve through the color synthesizing prism.

CONSTITUTION:A photosensor 402 fitted to a main body 401 is fitted faceup. This photosensor 402 is a sensor composed of a phototransistor, a photodiode, etc., and connected to a sense amplifier 402 and its output is converted into an electric signal corresponding to the brightness of illumination light 400 and inputted to a motor control circuit 40. This motor control circuit 404 is connected to a motor 405 and the aperture quantity of the stop mechanism 406 for the projection lens is controlled according to the brightness of the environment to controls the stop in the opening direction when the environment is bright and in the closing direction when dark. Further, the screen 408 varies in gain, so the gain is set with a gain adjusting knob 407 for switching the aperture quantity of the projection lens.
