      SOLUTION: The illuminating device 1 is provided with a plurality of planar light source panels 2 and a plurality of light diffusion reflecting plates 3 arranged on a light emitting side of the planar light source panels 2. The light diffusion reflecting plates 3 have rectangular bottom surfaces arranged on a light emitting region on the planar light source panel 2, light emitting surfaces 3a are approximately the same size as a planar contour of the surface light source panels 2 and side surfaces 3c are formed to be inclined diagonally outward from the bottom surfaces to the light emitting surfaces 3a. The light diffusion reflecting plates 3 which are adjacent to each other are arranged to be in contact with each other without any gap and the light emitting surfaces 3a are arranged to be continuous.

      SOLUTION: The lighting unit includes a reflecting plate made of a metal resistive element generating heat with flow of a current, and the cold-cathode tube. The reflecting plate has reflection characteristics, in which light not travelling in a required direction among the lights irradiated from the cold-cathode can be guided to a required direction or position. When the current is energized on the reflecting plate, the reflecting plate generates heat and the heat generated at the reflecting plate is transmitted to the cold-cathode tube by radiation and transmission via air to heat it. Further, the reflecting plate is so installed as to surround at least a part of the cold-cathode tube, and so that the light irradiated from the cold-cathode tube may reach it directly without a light-shielding matter.
