    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that is space-saving and capable of maintaining high image quality over a long period of time, by providing a cleaning means on the backside of a transfer belt so that a detection means can accurately detect image density and displacement.
      SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a transfer conveyance means which carries a transfer paper 100 on a transfer belt 60 endlessly stretched over a driving roller 61 and a plurality of driven rollers 62-66, conveys it to a transfer area, and sequentially transfers toner images formed on a plurality of photoreceptor drums to the transfer paper 100 in the transfer area; a detection means detecting the image density and the displacement from the image pattern transferred to a recording material; and the cleaning means for cleaning the front side of the driven roller 62 sandwiching the transfer belt 60 at a position facing the detection means and the backside of the transfer belt 60, on the side brought into contact with the driven roller 63. The cleaning means is disposed on the backside of the transfer belt 60.
