Accordingly, the reversely transferred toner is not mixed in residual toner on photoreceptors 2Y, 2M, 2C and 2K collected by photoreceptor cleaning devices 6Y, 6M, 6C and 6K.

The reverse electrified toner is discharged onto the photoreceptor drum during the period other than image formation period by applying a prescribed discharge bias to the brush roll. The application time of the discharge vias is made longer according as the cumulative number of prints is increased. The discharge bias is applied to the brush roll only for a minimum time required for completely discharging the amount of reverse electrified toner to be discharged, which is increased in accordance with increase of the cumulative number of prints. Thus the application time of the discharge bias is not made superfluously long while suppressing the occurrence of leaving the electrified toner unrecovered, which occurs with time.
