    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured such that matter adhering to image carriers and a transfer body are efficiently removed by eliminating a time when regular image forming operation cannot be performed.
      SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes photoreceptors on which images can be formed for each of colors, and a plurality of photoreceptors are arranged side by side along the moving direction of the transfer body to which images formed on the photoreceptors are transferred. The image forming apparatus recovers toner adhering to the surfaces of the photoreceptors or transfer body after the transfer by cleaning the toner. In transfer order of the images formed on the plurality of photoreceptors, before image formation which is to be executed on the photoreceptors at following stages, subsequent to image formation which is performed on the photoreceptor 1Y located most upstream in the moving direction of the transfer body, the image forming apparatus executes an adhering matter removal mode. In this mode, toner image formation different from the regular image formation is carried out in order to increase the amount of toner attached to the photoreceptors and transfer body. Then, the toner images formed in the adhering matter removal mode are cleaned off.
