A fixing rate is improved at the same pressure by passing a record sheet a plurality of times. Detection values, obtained from a developer concentration sensor 24, an optical sensor 75 and an optical sensor 85 in a color image-forming unit or an operation signal from a photoreceptor/developing motor 25 are compared with predetermined values stored in a ROM, to determine the failure of the color image-forming unit. When the failure occurs, the apparatus is configured to display to switch to the monochrome mode.
