    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic gauge correcting and holding unit capable of automatically adjusting a predetermined dimension between rails by independently gripping each of the right and left rails and automatically detecting an inside dimension between the right and left rails, and a gauge correcting method for the automatic gauge correcting and holding unit.
      SOLUTION: This automatic gauge correcting and holding unit comprises: an outer case which has predetermined dimensions adapted to an inside gauge dimension between the right and left rails, and which is provided in a horizontal direction perpendicular to the traveling direction of the rail; an inner case which has a rail clamp provided in the lower portion of one end, which is provided on the inner peripheral portion of the outer case, and in which a gauge-measuring position sensor is built or separately installed; right and left brackets which are provided in the state of being vertically screwed into both the right and left ends of the outer case, respectively, and which have a left rail clamp provided only in the inside portion of a lower end on the side almost symmetrical to a right rail clamp; right and left clamp arms which are provided on the leading end side surface portions of the right and left brackets in such a manner as to be capable of being opened/closed by an operating means, respectively; and vertical operation means which are provided on the right and left sides of the lower section of a track maintenance machine body and the upper ends of the right and left brackets, so as to make the automatic gauge correcting and holding unit vertically adjustable and movable, respectively.
