    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document carrying device free from feed unevenness, carrying stop, and contamination by rubbing with a carrying roller regardless of the thickness of a sheet document. SOLUTION: Guide plates 5, 6 constituting a detection part for detecting the stiffness of a document are arranged between a document carrying roller 3 and a contact glass 11. Both the guide plates 5, 6 are curved so as to recess downward. The upper guide plate 6 supports the document carrying roller 3-side end supported in such a manner as to be vertically rockable about a shaft 25. A regulation screw 26 for regulating the operation load of the guide plate 6 and a spring 27 are provided so that the pressing force for pressing the document by the guide plate 6 can be varied. When the rocking of the guide plate 6 exceeds a fixed range, a detection switch 7 detects it to switch a paper discharge passage.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an original from being erroneously detected by providing a device with an angle detection means for detecting the opening and closing state of an original pressing plate and a control means changing the detecting state of the original by an original detection element and changing the detecting state of the original according to the opening and closing state of the original pressing plate. SOLUTION: A frame 13 obtained by disposing an original glass 3 on which the original is placed is provided with a rotation type variable resistance 15 being the angle detection means. When the shaft 17 of the resistance 15 is rotated in accordance with the opening and closing action of the original pressing plate 9, the resistance value of the resistance 15 is changed. Thus, the opening and closing state of the plate 9 can be detected. Besides, a control action is executed so that the detecting state of the original by the original detection element S1 is changed according to the opening and closing state of the plate 9. Since the opening height of the plate 9 on an operator side can be set to be low by this constitution, the original is prevented from being erroneously detected due, to the hand or the arm of the operator in the case of the small- sized original.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sufficient illuminance at an original scanning position by the lighting device employing a fluorescent tube for the image forming device. SOLUTION: The lighting device is provided with a fluorescent tube 11 along with the main scanning direction for original reading, a slit 20a extending along the lengthwise direction of the fluorescent tube 11, a light shield 20 covering a circumferential face of the fluorescent tube 11 and only allowing emission of the light of the fluorescent tube 11 through the slit 20a, and a heater used to control a temperature of the fluorescent tube 11 to be within a prescribed temperature range. The light shield 20 is provided with a couple of reflecting plates 25, 26 extended from both sides of the slit 20a along the lengthwise direction of the fluorescent tube 11 toward the light emission direction of the fluorescent tube 11. The light from the fluorescent tube 11 is caused to be reflected by the faces opposed to a couple of reflecting plates 25, 26 to illuminate the surface of an original.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a document conveying failure by driving either a contact glass or a guide member according to the direction of conveyance, thus automatically varying the relation between the position of the contact glass and that of the guide member. CONSTITUTION:Each of guide plates 43 and 44 has an upper plate-shaped portion guiding a document 18 and forming an inclined face that gets higher in the direction for conveying the document 18, and the right end of the guide plate 43 is in a position higher than a contact glass 12A opposite thereto and the left end of the guide plate 44 is in a position lower than the contact glass 12A opposite thereto, so that a difference of height is formed therebetween. When the document 18 is conveyed rightwards under these conditions, the possibility of the end of the document entering the gap between the contact glass 12A and the guide plate 43 and the gap between the contact glass 12A and the guide plate 44 is slight even if it is curled, so no document conveying failure occurs.

    • PURPOSE:To discharge transfer sheets efficiently by providing plural discharging parts for transfer sheets to be discharged, placing one of them on the upper side of an original insertion part which is less used, thereby discharging sheets. CONSTITUTION:When originals are sent from a 1st original insertion part A, a guide operating plate 18 in a 2nd original insertion part B is turned to the position in which it abuts on a discharging tray being the upper discharging part 29. Therefore, the path of the discharging part 29 is formed by the turn of the operating plate 18, and transfer sheets can be discharged to the discharging part 29 as well as the lower discharging part 30. Thus transfer sheet discharging can be performed efficiently. Besides to that, a space can be used effectively, which contributes to the better utilization of the less used original insertion part B and to the miniaturization of the entire device.
