    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple high pressure discharge lamp apparatus capable of suppressing a rise in local temperature of an arc tube when it is turned on, for uniform temperature distribution within the arc tube.
      SOLUTION: In a lamp apparatus 1, a pair of ring bodies 57 and 59 having circumferential outer surfaces 57a and 59a are engaged with a reflecting mirror 9 of a lamp unit 3 built in the reflecting mirror 9 with its central axis in agreement with the optical axis of the reflecting mirror 9, while the optical axis of the reflecting mirror 9 is in agreement with the central axes of the circumferential surfaces 57a and 59a of the ring bodies 57 and 59, with a constant interval in between. A pair of electrodes is electrically connected to the circumferential surfaces 57a and 59a of the ring bodies 57 and 59. The ring bodies 57 and 59 are mounted on rotating rollers 65 and 67 arranged parallel to each other. The lamp unit 3 is rotated in the constant direction on the rotating rollers 65 and 67 by a driving motor 56. Power feeding members 81 and 83 are provided to supply power to the ring bodies 57 and 59.

At least a part of the portion of the electrode rod embedded in the sealing portion, the entire outer circumferential surface is covered tightly with a sleeve-like metal foil 7a.
