In a case when a gas cock is closed during the hot water supply, the flame of a main burner accidentally fires, and the accidental fire is detected by a flame rod (S21: YES), "OFF" is once stored in the notification mode flag (S29), and LED flashing form is changed (S31). The notification mode is released (S33: YES), when a battery is demounted during a period of this flashing form, and the power supply is stopped. Thus the notification of need of maintenance to the user and its releasing can be performed.

Even in a case where the area of the observation window is enlarged, the area of each split plate 43 is unchanged, however, the number of the split plates 43 is increased to increase the area of the shutter 41, thereby the actuation space for the shutter need not be increased in the vertical direction.
