    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map data update method and a map data update device, capable of updating data for each route and controlling navigation using the map file which is updated for each route, even if nationwide update is not finished.
      SOLUTION: Update processing is performed by update data 43 for each route in background of navigation control, and if update of the map file which is updated by the update file for each route included in the update data for each route is not finished by nationwide update data 44, it is updated by the update file for each route, after update by the nationwide update data. It is checked whether update of the map file used in the navigation control is finished or not, and if it is not finished, the data are updated by the nationwide update data, and then, updated by the update file for each route, and the navigation control section uses the map file after update, for navigation control.

    • PURPOSE: To conduct the voice guide of a next express-highway without making a driver feel troublesome by stopping the guide during traveling of a ramp way if a road to a guide intersection is the ramp way for entering the highway. CONSTITUTION: A guide information memory 11 stores guide intersections, etc., to be sequentially updated. A route guiding unit 12 instructs a voice synthesizer 13 to voice a corresponding voice guide by taking the present position and the intersection of the memory 11 into consideration. If a vehicle enters a ramp way at the next guide intersection during traveling of an express- highway A and transfers to an express-highway B, the unit 12 instructs the synthesizer 13 to voice a voice guide corresponding to a guide distance VORF through a speaker SP. Then, the VORF is similarly voice-guided. When the vehicle passes a VOPN, the attribute of the road is judged. If the result is a ramp way, the voice generation of the guide is stopped until the vehicle transfers to the highway B and waited. Accordingly, the driver never fails to listen the next guide.
