Then, the tap shows excellent welding resistance and abrasion resistance. The tool can tap the stainless steel which is the material to be machined and tends to cause the welding, while showing the stable machining capability and inhibiting the welding even when tapping the material with the use of the chlorine-free water-miscible cutting oil, and can extend the life.

Particularly, a helix angle of the helical flute 22 is set to 5° or more, and therefore the sharpness of the cutting edge of the rear flank is positively improved. Further the helix angle is set to 30° or less, and therefore the cutter has a predetermined rigidity imparted thereto against toppling.
