In the high-pressure discharge lamp, when the temperature of the tip 14a of each electrode 10 in lighting the lamp is set to 2,600-2,800°C by adjusting at least one of the electrode mass of the electrode 10, the winding length of the coil and the melting length of the melt part 14, the temperature difference between the tip 14a of the electrode and a root part 16 gets to 500°C or less.
