    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque converter lock-up clutch device for preventing vibration due to stick slip.
      SOLUTION: A torque converter to which the lock-up clutch device is attached has a friction material adhered to one of a front cover and a lock-up clutch piston which gets into contact with each other. A connector to an engine is welded to the front cover, and a protruded portion is formed on the friction face by the welding distortion. As a result, even when the friction material is adhered to one of the front cover and the clutch piston, if relative rotating slip occurs therebetween, positive pressure and negative pressure are generated before and behind the protruded portion to cause stick slip. So, a groove 71 longer than the range of a welded porion 61 of the connector 6 is formed in the friction face of the friction material 7 to balance the fluctuation of pressure.

A ratio of diatomaceous earth of a filler in the outer peripheral-side frictional material is more than that at the inner peripheral side, and μ-ν characteristic of the frictional material has positive gradient, thus the generation of grabbing chatter by stick slip can be prevented. Further as a coefficient of static friction is increased by adjusting components of the filler including a friction adjusting agent in the inner peripheral-side frictional material, a clutch can be more firmly engaged.
