    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for grinding an annular workpiece which can inexpensively improve a roundness of a thin annular workpiece.SOLUTION: An apparatus 100 for grinding an annular workpiece includes: an electromagnetic chuck mechanism in which an electric current is sent to a magnet coil existing around a chuck shaft to be abutted on an end of the annular workpiece 3 for generating magnetic force in the chuck shaft for gripping the annular workpiece 3; a rotary grindstone 2 for grinding an outer peripheral surface or an inner peripheral surface of the annular workpiece 3 while being abutted on the outer peripheral surface or the inner peripheral surface of the annular workpiece 3 gripped by the chuck shaft; a grinding fluid jetting nozzle 1 for jetting a grinding fluid 23 toward a portion to be ground by the rotary grindstone 2; and a grinding fluid supplying means 25 for supplying the grinding fluid 23 to the grinding fluid jetting nozzle 1. Thus the outer peripheral surface or the inner peripheral surface of the annular workpiece 3 is ground by a centerless grinding method. The electromagnetic chuck mechanism includes a chuck power source for executing attenuation demagnetization when the electric current to be sent to the magnet coil is changed over.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for grinding an annular workpiece which can improve the circularity of a thin-wall annular workpiece at a low cost.
      SOLUTION: The method for grinding the annular workpiece 3 comprises grinding the outer peripheral surface or the inner peripheral surface of an annular workpiece 3, grasped by an electromagnetic chuck mechanism 21, with a grindstone 2 abutted against the outer peripheral surface or the inner peripheral surface and further jetting and supplying a grinding fluid 23 to a site to be ground by the grindstone 2 to grind the outer peripheral surface or the inner peripheral surface of the annular workpiece 3 by a centerless grinding method. According to the method, in a finishing step of a grinding cycle, by reducing an external force which acts on the annular workpiece 3, the deformation amount of the annular workpiece 3 by the external force can be reduced, whereby the circularity of a thin-wall annular workpiece 3 can be improved at low cost.
