By this electrolysis, a metal dissolving reaction and a violent oxygen generating reaction are generated from the front and the back surfaces of the steel plate 1 as the anode and corrosion products adhered to the surface of the steel plate 1 are perfectly removed while the surface passivation of the steel plate after removal is promoted. This method exhibits remarkable effect in the enhancement of corrosion resistance for a high tensile thin hot rolled steel plate of an automobile to be painted.

CONSTITUTION:A one-side electroplasted steel sheet 1 as a steel sheet for automobiles is cleaned by degreasing and pickling, and is then passed in an electrolytic cell 7. An electrolyte 8 contg. Na2SO4 or Na2SO4+H2SO4, Na2CO3+H2SO4 is put in the cell 7, and a cathode 9 and an anode 10 are provided therein. A voltage is impressed to both electodes 9, 10 from a power source 12. Since the non- plated surface 15 of the steel sheet 1 passing the inside of the electrolyte 8 opposes to the cathode 9, the surface is electrolyzed as an anode and the dissolution reaction of the metal and the generation of oxygen arise from said surface. The corrosion product sticking on the surface 15 is thoroughly removed by both reactions whereby passivation is advanced and the chemical convertability such as phosphate treatment is improved.
