    • PURPOSE: To improve the reliability of metal at a weld zone, by utilizing a reduction caused by a fin pass roll in preforming a metallic square blank pipe, before feeding it into a welding roll, into a shape comprising four sides respectively bulging outward so as to figure a prescribed convex circular arc, at manufacturing a square metallic blank pipe.
      CONSTITUTION: A metallic blank sheet is formed into a pentagonal square pipe blank 1 wherein one apex is unclosed; this pipe blank 1 is fed to a fin pass roll 2F wherein upper and lower forming rolls 12A, 12B and the left and right forming rolls 12C, 12D widen the bending angles α-2, β-2, and at the same time, the end planes on both side edges of the square pipe blank 1 are forced to touch at the side planes of the fin roll 12C of the forming roll 12A; then, the fin roll 12C applies a compression force to the outer surface of the pipe blank 1 which thereby receives a 0.5W1.5% reduction. Thus preformed pipe blank 1 is processed by a next fin pass roll in order to further widening the bending angles and to give a further reduction; after which, the pipe blank 1 is passed through a welding roll and its both side edges are welded; hereby, a square pipe is finished up.
