    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for cooling exhaust gas for an electric furnace attaining high cooling performance, a space-saving property and furthermore cost reduction. SOLUTION: The device for cooling exhaust gas for the electric furnace is composed of a plurality of cooling zones 14A-14C connected to a post-stage of a combustion tower for burning exhaust gas generated from the electric furnace. The cooling zones respectively comprise cooling pipes 3-1, temperature measuring means 7 installed outside the cooling pipes, and spray type cooling means 8a-8f cooling the outer surface of the cooling pipes with water. A cooling water quantity control means for maintaining the outer surface temperature of the cooling pipes to 150°C or higher when cooling with the spray type cooling means and controlling the cooling water quantity of the spray type cooling means provided at the respective cooling zones so that cooling water sticking to the outer surface of the cooling pipes is evaporated in an instant, is provided as a common means.
